CVE

CVE-2010-3813

TITLE

Apple Safari of WebKit In DNS Vulnerability that bypasses read-ahead settings

Trust: 0.8

sources: JVNDB: JVNDB-2010-002504

DESCRIPTION

The WebCore::HTMLLinkElement::process function in WebCore/html/HTMLLinkElement.cpp in WebKit, as used in Apple Safari before 5.0.3 on Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.6 and Windows, and before 4.1.3 on Mac OS X 10.4; webkitgtk before 1.2.6; and possibly other products does not verify whether DNS prefetching is enabled when processing an HTML LINK element, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions, as demonstrated by an HTML e-mail message that uses a LINK element for X-Confirm-Reading-To functionality. WebKit is prone to a security-bypass vulnerability. Attackers can exploit this issue by enticing an unsuspecting user into visiting a malicious webpage. Successful exploits will allow clients to send requests to malicious servers that can aid in further attacks. NOTE: This issue was previously covered in BID 44938 (Apple Safari Prior to 5.0.3 and 4.1.3 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities) but has been given its own record to better document it. WebKit is a set of open source web browser engines jointly developed by companies such as KDE, Apple (Apple), and Google (Google), and is currently used by browsers such as Apple Safari and Google Chrome. Apple Apple Safari is a web browser developed by Apple (Apple), and is the default browser included with Mac OS X and iOS operating systems. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to bypass preset access restrictions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Secure your corporate defenses and reduce complexity in handling vulnerability threats with the new Secunia Vulnerability Intelligence Manager (VIM) Beta.
