CVE-2013-0999

TITLE

Apple iTunes Used in products such as WebKit Vulnerable to arbitrary code execution

Trust: 0.8

sources: JVNDB: JVNDB-2013-002757

DESCRIPTION

WebKit, as used in Apple iTunes before 11.0.3, allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via vectors related to iTunes Store browsing, a different vulnerability than other WebKit CVEs listed in APPLE-SA-2013-05-16-1. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the way Webkit implements the string.replace() method. Due to insufficient boundary checks it is possible for specially crafted strings to cause an int wrap during the calculation of a buffer size. This could lead to a heap buffer overflow that could result in remote code execution under the context of the current user. WebKit is prone to a heap-memory-corruption vulnerability. Note: This issue was previously discussed in BID 59939 (WebKit Multiple Unspecified Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities), but has been moved to its own record for better documentation. WebKit is a set of open source web browser engines jointly developed by companies such as KDE, Apple (Apple), and Google (Google), and is currently used by browsers such as Apple Safari and Google Chrome. A vulnerability exists in WebKit used in Apple iTunes versions prior to 11.0.3. This may lead to a malicious alteration of the behavior of a form submission. For OS X Mountain Lion systems Safari 6.0.5 is included with OS X v10.8.4. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 APPLE-SA-2013-09-18-2 iOS 7 iOS 7 is now available and addresses the following: Certificate Trust Policy Available for: iPhone 4 and later, iPod touch (5th generation) and later, iPad 2 and later Impact: Root certificates have been updated Description: Several certificates were added to or removed from the list of system roots.
