CVE-2014-3556

TITLE

nginx of SMTP proxy of mail/ngx_mail_smtp_handler.c of STARTTLS Encrypted in implementation SMTP Command injection vulnerability

Trust: 0.8

sources: JVNDB: JVNDB-2014-007439

DESCRIPTION

The STARTTLS implementation in mail/ngx_mail_smtp_handler.c in the SMTP proxy in nginx 1.5.x and 1.6.x before 1.6.1 and 1.7.x before 1.7.4 does not properly restrict I/O buffering, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to insert commands into encrypted SMTP sessions by sending a cleartext command that is processed after TLS is in place, related to a "plaintext command injection" attack, a similar issue to CVE-2011-0411. This vulnerability CVE-2011-0411 It is a similar problem. Supplementary information : CWE Vulnerability type by CWE-77: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command ( Command injection ) Has been identified. nginx is prone to a remote command-injection vulnerability. Attackers can exploit this issue to inject commands into SSL sessions and disclose sensitive information. Versions prior to nginx 1.6.1 and 1.7.4 are vulnerable. nginx is a lightweight web server/reverse proxy server and email (IMAP/POP3) proxy server developed by Russian programmer Igor Sysoev. The vulnerability stems from the fact that the program does not properly limit I/O buffering. The following versions are affected: nginx version 1.5.x, version 1.6.0, version 1.6.1, version 1.7.0 to version 1.7.3. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Note: the current version of the following document is available here: https://h20564.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/kb/ docDisplay?docId=emr_na-c04533567 SUPPORT COMMUNICATION - SECURITY BULLETIN Document ID: c04533567 Version: 1 HPSBOV03227 rev.1 - HP SSL for OpenVMS, Remote Disclosure of Information, Denial of Service (DoS) and Other Vulnerabilities NOTICE: The information in this Security Bulletin should be acted upon as soon as possible.
