DESCRIPTION

Buffer overflow in the Wi-Fi driver in Huawei Mate 8 NXT-AL before NXT-AL10C00B182, NXT-CL before NXT-CL00C92B182, NXT-DL before NXT-DL00C17B182, and NXT-TL before NXT-TL00C01B182 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly gain privileges via a crafted application, aka HWPSIRT-2016-03021. HuaweiMate8 is a smartphone product from China's Huawei company. A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in HuaweiMate8 that caused the program to fail to perform parameter checking. An attacker could use this vulnerability to spoof a user to install a malicious application to send specific parameters to the Wi-Fi driver, resulting in a system reboot or user privilege escalation. Huawei Mate 8 is prone to multiple local buffer-overflow vulnerabilities because it fails to adequate boundary checks on user-supplied input. Local attackers can exploit these issues to execute arbitrary code in the context of the affected application. Failed exploit attempts will likely result in denial-of-service conditions.
